Safeguarding Policy
Verdure recognises that safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone who works with children and that they are an important part of the wider safeguarding system. This policy and associated documents set out how Verdure will meet these responsibilities. They give clear direction to staff, volunteers, visitors and parents about the expected behaviour and our legal responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people whilst attending our coaching sessions and/or events.
Some children are additionally vulnerable due to the impact of previous experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs or other issues which may or may not be linked to a protected characteristic. Verdure recognises its responsibilities regarding safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people as set out in the following legislation and guidance.
We believe that everyone involved in working with children has a responsibility to promote their welfare, to keep them safe and to practise in a way that protects them. In addition to adhering to policies and guidance stated above, we do this by:
-
ensuring staff and volunteers at Verdure, hold appropriate valid qualifications, insurances, and DBS certificates, in relation to their roles.
-
ensuring that staff, volunteers and parents/carers are clear on how to report any safeguarding concerns.
-
adhering to and operating within our own and CIMSPA member’s code of conduct at all times.
-
ensuring that we provide a safe physical environment for our children, young people, staff and volunteers, by applying health and safety measures in accordance with CIMSPA activity guidance documents* and relevant law and regulatory guidance, including following CPSU guidance on recommended minimum supervision ratios when parents/carers do not stay for sessions.
-
building a safeguarding culture where staff and volunteers, children, young people and their families, treat each other with respect and are comfortable about sharing concerns.
-
reporting of any bumps and scrapes that occur during coaching sessions to parents/carers and keeping records confidential in line with our privacy policy.
This safeguarding policy should be read in conjunction with our Privacy and Code of Conduct policies.
